FEATURE ARTICLE - ROD'S NEVER FAIL HUMIDOR
------------------------------------------------------------
So
this is the way it started out. I had this vision of doing
a nice drawing of the humidor with all the dimensions so that
you could built it yourself or pass the drawing on to a cabinet
maker and have it done for you. Everybody could ooh and aaah
then
read the article. So I drew a nice drawing of the cabinet
with the
necessary dimensions and then thought that I would just insert
it
into the article right about here.
(Insert
Drawing)
Hey! what's happening it doesn't work!!! I'm sure that its
just
my personal ineptitude when it comes to these damn machines
but I
can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. I'm sure
that
I will hear back from the computer experts out there and once
explained it will be a simple matter. Nope I'm out of luck
- this
program edits text only and I can't put any drawings or pictures
in it.
That doesn't mean to say that you can't see the drawing. I
put it
on the web site. http://www.ajaxcigars.com/humidor.html
Anyway
lets carry on.
This
is a follow up to the article in UNDER THE WRAPPER #3 - Humidors,
and is for those of you who want a real nice, killer humidor
and have
outgrown the smaller desk top size. Mine is about the size
of a
China Cabinet and looks very similar with double glass doors
in the
front. The interior has 5 adjustable shelves for storing and
displaying
your cigars. Now I have spent a considerable amount of time
and
effort in coming up with this design. Simplicity being the
key.
I
wanted both form and function.
I wanted reliability.
I wanted working parts that could be easily obtained.
I wanted something that could be scaled up or down in size.
Well at this point your somewhat interested or you've blown
by this
article and are looking to see what the newsletter special
is this
month.
As you can see from the drawing not only is the construction
simple but you can easily scale the size to suit your personal
requirements. If its to large - cut it in half. Make it say
30" wide and only have 1 door instead of 2. A friend
of mine took
this design and instead of building a cabinet he just lined
a small
closet with Spanish Cedar, put in the shelves and a nice door
on
the front. Works perfect. Please instruct your cabinet maker,
or
if your doing it yourself, not to make the cabinet air tight.
When
you get into the larger humidors it pays to have good air
circulation
and the equipment can easily look after keeping the proper
humidity.
Now
to the equipment - here's what you need.
1)
A humidifier which is easily obtainable at any drug store.
The cost about $60.00 and ensure you get a cool air model
as opposed to the warm air one.
2) A digital hygrometer which again is available at the drug
store.
If you can't find one let me know as I can get them.
They cost about $30.00
3) A humidity control gage which costs about $100.00. This
is
what controls your humidifier and turns it on and off when
necessary. I can get these as well and I think they are
available at places like Home Depot.
The humidity control gage is mounted about 24" from the
top of
your humidor on the inside wall. A power cord runs from the
gage
to the electrical outlet. The humidifier which is placed on
the floor
of the cabinet below the bottom shelf, plugs into the control
gage.
The hygrometer mounts on the wall beside the control gage.
Plug
her in and your in business. Please call me if you have any
problems. Its a really good humidor and a nice piece of furniture.
I have never had a problem keeping the humidity levels constant.
The whole set up is about $500.00 if you do it yourself and
about $800.00 if someone builds its for you.
